This deal came after the strongly contested presidential elections. Ambassador Michael Rannenberger, U.S. Ambassador to Kenya was the Keynote Speaker. Over 500 students were inducted into the Peace Ambassador ePal Program. Peace Trees were planted to commemorate those who lost their homes and lives during the violence after the election.
Students gathered on Mount Washington in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for a rally –proclaiming a challenging message to G-20 Summit officials and constituents to be sure to consider youth in their future global economic plans.
About 200 youth and employers gathered at the LeMont Restaurant on Mount Washington to discuss the youth’s role in the future of the economy. This event was broadcasted live online and questions from Twitter and Facebook were received internationally and answered by a panel of experts from various fields of employment.
WDGA held its 2nd annual Peace Vigils in local communities to promote its message of peace in the face of violence. Local artist came out and performed poetry, raps, spoken word and songs with the message of peace and honored families in the community who had lost family members to violence.
WDGA held a Peace Camp in Nakuru, Kenya for the students who are in the Peace Ambassador Program. According to the students, this day was very enlightening. They learned a lot about how important peace is to obtaining a job. The premier sponsor of the event was SDV/ UPS-Kenya. The theme of the camp was “Get Along to Get Ahead” and the facilitators were Kenyan Youth leaders, faculty and managers from SDV / UPS –Kenya. The day was a success and kept the students encouraged to keep promoting peace and their communities. As one WDGA Peace Ambassador student put it this way: “ I am proud of WDGA and encouraged by this workshop. I am not going home the same way I came. I am going out with something that I could not have gotten if I had decided to stay home. Thanks to all those who struggled to make this day successful. God bless you.”
